Rambling on the foot hills of the White Mountains

But Leading Guests have chosen for you something unique and special, a trip that combines more elements than a simple ramble. We suggest that you join us in visiting the traditional villages of western Crete, and explore the unique beauty of the Forest of Azilakes (Quercus ilex). Daily schedule After breakfast we will pick you up from your hotel with our Minibus, and after a 45 minute journey we will reach the foothills of the White Mountains. Here we shall find a small settlement amongst the hills, marking the beginning of our ramble. From here we walk through the village, finding the foot path that will take us to the Forest of Azilakes. This is a pleasant ramble taking in the breathtaking forest. As we walk, our experienced guide will tell us about the myths and legends of the area, and the historical facts, not forgetting to point out the local flora and fauna. After a couple of hours we reach the church of St. John, where we enjoy a tasty picnic under the shade of the trees that surround the church yard. We continue our ramble, having rested, to arrive at the second village of our excursion. At the exit of the village our Minibus awaits, ready to transport us a few kilometers further along to a setting where we can enjoy our drink and a view of the only natural lake on the island of Crete. On return to our hotel we are full of fresh, beautiful memories of our day out.
