This tour features gorgeous scenery and views in the Gorge of Danube River, National Park of Djerdap and Iron Gates, medieval fortresses of Smederevo and Golubac and the museum of one of the most important archaeological sites in the world – Lepenski Vir. We will visit Lepenski Vir Museum which displays prehistoric settlement of Lepenski Vir moved there from its original location and see a short film about the discovery of Lepenski Vir. Today, all original sculptures are kept in the National Museum of Serbia in Belgrade, but we can see well-made copies in the Lepenski Vir Museum. Lepenski Vir was the centre of one of the most important prehistoric cultures in Europe. The remains of religious architecture dating from 6,500 to 5,500 BC have been found. Based on the shape and proportions of the settlement it can be inferred that the builders of Lepenski Vir had a certain amount of mathematical knowledge. We will continue our drive through Djerdap National Park make a stop on a hill from where we would have a fantastic view of the gorge. We will visit Golubac Fortress, which marks the entrance to Djerdap National Park. Built in the 14th century, it has nine towers and stands on the cliffs of the Danube at a place where the Danube is almost 6 km wide. Such position allowed it easy control of river traffic during the Middle Ages. Smederevo fortress, today is the largest medieval lowland type fortress in Europe. It was erected in the 15th century on the right bank of the Danube River, as the last Serbian medieval capital, and the Ottoman Empire further fortified it. The fortress consists of two parts: the Small Town and the Outer Town. It was connecting the Balkans and Central Europe, and for centuries it was an important religious and commercial centre. The relics of Saint Luke the Evangelist were brought and stored in the Church of the Annunciation at the fortress. During the tour, we will have frequent stops for picture taking and scenic breaks. We would have a lunch break at a local restaurant on the bank of the river Danube with an excellent view of the fortress of Golubac.

Heritage interpreting will provide you with far more in-depth and comprehensive insights into Serbian history, culture and heritage than simple tour guiding. The role of a knowledgeable Serbian Heritage Interpreter is crucial during cultural tours, especially when visiting Serbian medieval Orthodox monasteries.
My Serbian Heritage Tours have been designed for solo travellers, couples, small groups of friends or families. Tours vary from inclusive Belgrade private tours, Belgrade layover tours, cultural day trips from Belgrade to Serbian monasteries, day trips from Belgrade to Vojvodina, tours of Serbian medieval monaster
