Walking Tour of Belfast City Centre

Starting in Belfast City Centre, we pass the magnificent City Hall (built between 1898 and 1906), visiting the Titanic Monument (Thane) and Queen Victoria’s statue; progressing along Chichester Street we pass the Old Town Hall and Bittles Bar (shaped like a smoothing iron!) to enter Victoria Square and Belfast’s latest Shopping Mall; passing through Corn Market, we enter the newly pedestrianised Ann Street and turn left into one of three narrow 18th century passageways (« entries ») to emerge in High Street, one of Belfast’s most interesting historical thoroughfares; dropping into one of several local historical pubs, we take a breather or a drink; with Prince Albert’s leaning Memorial Clock-Tower in view, we continue along Donegall Street where we visit Writers’ Square and St Ann’s Cathedral; turning left we proceed along Royal Avenue and Donegall Place with their High Victorian architecture; arriving back behind the City Hall to admire the sculpted heads of internationally famous historical figures around Yorkshire House, we make our way to one of Belfast’s most famous old drinking-houses in Great Victoria Street, the Crown Liquor Saloon; emerging from the pub, where we encounter tourists and locals alike, we stop to admire Belfast’s magnificent Opera House, on our way to our starting point, via Wellington Place ( named after Ireland’s famous military leader ).
