Bromo, East Java

Bromo is the most attractive mountain in East Java. It is located in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, inhabited by the ethnic Tengger community who still maintain their tradition as Hindus Family. One of highlights of their festivities is KASODO ceremony. Every year, Tenggere people pray in Hindus Temple in the foot of mount Bromo, cross the sea of sand and climb to the top of the mountain then cast offerings in the form of live fowl, money, bouquets of flower into the hissing, seething inner crater. They pray to God « Brahma » so that in coming year He will grant them good health and harvest. Mount Bromo itself is an active volcano with a spectacular volcanic landscape. The crater measures 10 KM across and its steep walls fall away into a sea of volcanic sand. From the crater of mount Bromo, you would see the amazing smoking mountain menancingly. The best time to visit this area is at sunrise time when the atmostphere has certain catalysmic charm. Come on the dry season is the best time to see the scenery surround of the Bromo Mountain. It is not just Mount Bromo there, but you would find Semeru Mountain (the Highest mountain in Java Island) and Mount Batok just cross to Mount Bromo.
