Belem district

One of the most beautiful districts of Lisbon is Belem. Located 7 km from down town has 2 monuments protected by Unesco, lots of history to tell and a nice fresh atmosphere at the river. After leaving the hotel we take the tram 15 along the river and near the Tower of Belem is where we start our walking tour. The symbol of Lisbon is an original fortress from 1520. The Monument of the Discoveries with the statue of Prince Henry the Navigator remind us that Portugal experimented an epic odyssey in the 15. and 16. century. But the best example of this glory is the unique monastery of Jeronimos. We visit the church of our Lady of Belem and the cloister (the entrece ticket in the cloister is not included). To finish this walking tour I suggest you a taste of “Portuguese custard tarts » or « pasteis de nata. » – the neighborhoods specialty. One is never enough!!
